How AVA matches side-stone pairs
Matching a pair is not the same as finding two similar stones. Every AVA pair is matched on measured length, width and depth so the two stones sit level and symmetrical in the mounting, then checked for face-up color and clarity under consistent grading conditions. Step cuts and brilliant cuts are matched within their own cutting style, because the way each returns light is different and a mixed pair rarely looks balanced beside a center stone.
